Free Clever Bere NOW

Clever Bere, ZINASU (The Zimbabwe National Students Union) President
from Zimbabwe

Clever and I attended the same Connecting Youth Movement event, held in Thailand.

I remember during the round table, on country presentation - Clever was talking about students arrest in Zimbabwe, about terrors and torture which they are going through.
He mentioned about students being expelled from University, just because they participated or supported a youth/student peaceful manifestation. We even watched some pictures and some videos of all those young people who have been arrested, detained and tortured.
It was hard to watch ... in one word: TERRIBLE.

Today i found out that Clever Bere has been arrested.

The lectures at the Universities were about to start on August, 4th.
In this way, students at the University of Zimbabwe had a manifestation to address the exaggerated tuition fees (which range from US$400 - $600 per semester), as 3/4 of students have not been able to pay their fees this semester, in this way being prevented from attending the classes and accessing the libraries.

As the arrest of students in Zimbabwe have been condemned by Amnesty International, the smallest thing we can do in Moldova is collect signatures urging the Zimbabwe Republic Police to ensure that the students, including Clever, are treated in compliance with human rights standards governing the treatment of detainees, and call for their his immediate and unconditional release.

I hope and pray that they are safe!
